“Every piece of this, every bit of volunteering, every donation it mattered. In these close places, it made a difference,” Jon Lovett proclaimed on the November 6th episode of the hit podcast Pod Save America. Lovett and his co-hosts Jon Favreau, Dan Pfeiffer and Tommy Vietor were celebrating Joe Biden’s victory. Despite winning the popular vote by over seven million votes, Biden beat Trump by only 43,000 votes in Wisconsin, Georgia and Arizona. Eking out a victory required enthusiasm on the left to match the unprecedented voter turnout on the right. Every ally mattered in overcoming Trump’s Electoral College advantage.


My epiphany can be traced back to a phone notification: Five people have died and 450 people have been hospitalized from vaping-related illnesses. I’d been vaping for over a year and had toyed around with the idea of quitting. My first thought was, “That’s it. I’m done. I cannot keep ignoring all the signs begging me to quit.”

As the days passed, several counterarguments began chipping away at my resolve. Over 320 million people live in the United States. Five people had died. That is a very small number in the grand scheme of things. How could doctors be sure…
